The technique of static light scattering (SLS) measures absolute molecular weight using the relationship between the intensity of light scattered by a particle and its molecular weight and size. In general, larger particles scatter more light than smaller particles from a given light source, and the intensity of the scattered light is proportional to the molecular weight of the particle. Dynamic light scattering (DLS) is a well-known technique for determining sample interactions, particle size, and aggregation of molecules dispersed or dissolved in solution. This technique can also be a reliable method for characterizing protein stability.
