Biological Information

Background Information:

Glucose Stimulated Insulin Release Pathway
Human primary-like pancreatic beta cells are fully mature human pancreatic beta cells that exhibit close to native beta cell phenotypes. These cells secrete insulin in response to glucose (Glucose Stimulated Insulin Secretion (GSIS)), in a robust and reproducible manner. Furthermore the cells display a dynamic insulin secretion upon stimulation with incretins. When the cells are activated with glucose or glucose + ligand, there is a downstream insulin release which can be measured using TR-FRET detection method. Fluorescence intensity measured is proportional to insulin concentration.
